Business is an occupation in which customers buy goods and services provided by the businessman and hence, he earns in the form of profits. To run a successful business, it is essential to have a professional team of employees in the form of managers, clerks, general employees and many more. A Manager plays an important role in running the business so that the company not only makes a profit but also has a higher demand in the market alongside a higher business life.
Now the question arises: who is a manager?
A manager is an individual who directs the efforts of other employees and manages resources and makes their optimum utilization. A manager performs all the functions in an organization such as hiring, motivating, screening potential candidates, directing, controlling, organizing and many more duties. In short, one can say, a manager is an individual who is responsible for getting the task done at the end of the day. In the article below there are three important key concepts to be a successful manager in an organization along with examples and real-life interview answers which help a person become a successful manager. How is this connected with my personal goals and what have I learned by interviewing a strong leader?
As discussed above, a manager performs various duties but according to me, there are three basic and essential concepts which help a manager to manage people and become the best version of themselves.
Pre-screening the potential candidates:
Pre-screening is a type of interviewing format in which a manager performs a background check to see if the candidate has a criminal history. For instance, I gave my criminal history background check when I applied for a Retirement home to work with vulnerable residents. Upon submission of my background report, my manager was confident, and he gave me full trust to deal with the staff and the residents. The manager also uses this technique to know if the candidate is trustworthy and would be a good fit for the company. To see if the basic criteria are met, managers ask standard questions such as why we should hire you, what your goals are and so on. This process allows the manager to eliminate the candidates who have potential but fail to meet the job expectations.
During this process, the manager is supposed to be aware of the attitude/behaviour the candidate portrays and the spontaneous responses.
Hiring
Hiring is a process in which the potential candidate is finally selected who meets the basic criteria and has an excellent approach towards work. When a company hires, it gives preferences to its internal employees for promotion and then gives out forms/puts vacant job positions for the general public. A manager must hire the best fit for the company as employees make or break the company. Great people attract great people and therefore, great employees attract great business deals which lead to profit and hence, the company’s growth. After a candidate is been hired, it is a manager’s job to explain the job to its employees and utilize their learning to its best.
Motivation
According to me, motivating employees is a big step conducted by a manager and has various benefits not only for the employee but also for the manager and the company. Motivation can be done by rewarding and appreciation. Rewards should not necessarily be in the form of expensive gifts but a manager can also reward their employee with bonuses, gift cards, coupons, day offs and many more. Whereas appreciation on the other side is as crucial as rewarding. Employees can be appreciated in the form of a small announcement when a certain employee meets the sales target in the morning meeting, giving an employee of the month, talking to the employee about the positive impact made on the company by his/ her work and many more. For example, Raghav was one of my employees in my office. I noticed he was lacking behind in his work and tried to cope with it. Therefore, I gave him two business days off to rest and regain his strength and come back with an exceptional working mindset. Motivating is necessary because there are various business corporations and to grow and earn profits the company must invest more in its employee's happiness than the company itself. This not only allows an employee to work even harder but give their best input to the company. It is the ethical duty of the manager to keep their employees happy and hyped for the next workday.
Below are the questions asked to Sir Noah (manager of Trade Solutions Inc.) about his approach to being a successful leader.
The most important characteristics of becoming a good manager are leadership, patience and good communication skills. The way Sir Noah motivates its employees with are one-week international vacation and gifting certificates of appreciation to its employees. The strategies used by Sir Noah for becoming a successful leader are always to be humble towards your work and your employees. It is crucial to have soft skills as well as strong hard skills which will benefit a person to growth. His leadership style would be very calm alongside aggressive towards his work so that the employees follow their leader. Cheerful while communicating but also an individual who takes work in a very serious manner. Hiring new employees is always fun but has to be done respectfully and patiently. According to him, he looks for employees who have strong past experiences regarding the same job and the candidate knows well enough how to work under pressure. Business is not the same every day and hence, recognizing change and appreciating is important. Accept the change and create a plan to work with it. The biggest challenge in leading people was when people don’t want to be led. This means when the employees don’t take their work seriously way and hence, make excuses for not showing up, and not working wholeheartedly. The biggest lesson learned by managing the employee is always to think as if you are an employee and be in their shoes. Try to understand their problems and issues if any with the company and solve them to your best.

Therefore, it can be concluded that it takes various techniques to become a great leader and manage their employees. It is not easy being a manager because he/she is an individual who mentors his employees while they look upon him. Squeezes the best qualities of an employee and utilizes them to make profits and company growth.
